Main Page error reports

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 11:18 on 10 April 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"

Shouldn't the winning team links go to 2024–25 UConn Huskies women's basketball team and 2024–25 Florida Gators men's basketball team which have the encyclopedic information on the current team rather than the general articles about the history of the teams.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 01:48, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

See this diff. Schwede66 02:22, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Let me clarify: Florida Gators should be piped like this Florida Gators. Same for UConn.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 02:27, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done, thanks for suggesting. Stephen 03:14, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thanks for clarifying. Schwede66 04:29, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TonyTheTiger @Stephen@Schwede66: Blurbs have typically linked to the general team page, not the season-specific page. For example, see the 2024 post or the recent Super Bowl post. Perhaps it was decided that the general team page was more accessible for non-fans? I can see an argument to be made for the season page, but just noting that it hasn't been ITN practice, —Bagumba (talk) 04:42, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was unaware of that convention. Schwede66 04:47, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Linking a specific team season's page has been done many times before, although sometimes they're not created or suitable. Stephen 06:00, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The major North American sports have team season pages. I just don't recall them being linked from blurbs since I've been active on ITN the last few years. —Bagumba (talk) 07:08, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
From Wikipedia talk:In the news/Archive 50 § What should be linked? in 2015:

But I imagine most readers clicking on this team links are expecting to be pointed to information about the franchises themselves rather than information about the individual seasons.

Afterwards, Tariqabjotu changed the existing Super Bowl blurb to use the general team pages instead of the season-specific ones.[1]Bagumba (talk) 07:25, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Amakuru: Pinging you as originator of that 2015 thread. —Bagumba (talk) 07:29, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping, and yes - the current links such as Florida Gators are contrary to MOS:EGG. If the link says "Florida Gators" then that's the article it should go to. It's also more informative to go through to the general article on the team if readers need to click that link because they're unsure who it is. I'd forgotten the 2015 thread, but in all other sporting events it's the team that's linked. @Stephen: please can you self-revert. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 07:48, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It’s not egg because I included ‘the’ in the link per our usual practice. Stephen 08:13, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
