Welcome!

[edit]

Hi Sophitus, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

James Carter

Oops — sorry. With regard to your question, the capital "B" was definitely wrong, but I was changing it anyway, I thought I'd change "born" to the more usual "b." (more usual in the reference books that I've looked at, anyway). I don't think that there's anything in the Wikipedia:Manula of style on this, but I'll check. African Burial Ground

[edit]

--Hey Sophitus, I just wanted to let you know I created the initial article for the African Burial Ground. It's basically still a stub right now, so feel free to go in an add whatever material you'd like to it. --Jleon 14:00, 25 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Hi, thanks for redoing the college paragraph. Now, I know you, and sometimes would request you to copyedit my "creations". Thanks again.--Bhadani 18:05, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Article has been rewriiten by User:Sven-ola. I have replaced my delete nomination vote with a "no vote". Can you reread to reconsider or affirm your delete vote? Sjakkalle 08:07, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

thanks!

[edit]

Hey Sophitus, thanks for the positive feedback regarding featured lists! It's encouraging to hear from other editors that one's efforts are appreciated. I'll do my best to continue helping the project with my new admin powers. Thanks for your support! --Spangineer (háblame) July 4, 2005 04:00 (UTC)

Possible Wikiproject on American Football

[edit]

Actually, I was thinking about starting a Wikiproject on American Football but primarily only on the NFL because I seem to be the primary contributor to those articles. So are you thinking about a Wikiproject about American Football in general or just on the NFL? Zzyzx11 (Talk) 4 July 2005 04:20 (UTC)

  • Sorry, I didn't carefully read your message carefully. You specifically said NFL. So take me an hour or two and I'll create a wikiproject detailing all the standards I have been doing. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 4 July 2005 04:22 (UTC)

Thanks

I for some reason had it in my head that Favre was the all-time leader in consectutive starts. Thanks for correcting my error. Grassferry49 July 14th 2005

Categories for David Smith

[edit]

Categories for David Smith Hello, I've noticed that you recently changed some categories in the David Smith (sculptor) article. I know you do a lot of work on categories, so I trust your edit, but I am simply curious why you deleted the modern artists category from the article. Thanks. --Sophitus 03:59, August 3, 2005 (UTC)

Hi! Yeah, I'm trying to make sense out of the art categories. I've since created "Abstract expressionist artists" category, which is in the "Modern artists" category, but if Smith is miscategorized, please recategorize him. >>sparkit|TALK<< 04:20, August 3, 2005 (UTC)

Dragonflies

[edit]

Hi - thanks for your comments about the dragonfly article. I'm in the process of removing the excess bold formatting, as lots of people have commented on that. You said that the overall format is confused - can you be more specific? What changes would you like to see or which aspects of the format are not quite right? I'm deliberately not doing anything about the redlinks though. The purpose of the article was to encourage other people to create species pages as there is so little dragonfly-related material on Wikipedia. - SP-KP 19:12, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

NFL Champions

[edit]

I see you suggest that all Super Bowl champions should be listed as NFL champions. The New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs were American Football League Champions and World Champions. They were never NFL champions, nor shoiuld they be called such. RemembertheAFL 19 August 2005

Dragonflies again

[edit]

Thanks for your feedback. Just to clarify I'm not "pushing for Festured status" - it was Dsmdgold who listed the article here. I merely picked up the comments made as a result and am responding to the people who posted them to find out how I can improve the main article (also quite a good way for me to learn more about Wikipedians' style preferences, to help me with other articles). If it ends up as a featured list, that's just a nice bonus. Interestingly about a dozen of the species pages are new since I wrote the article so it may be having the intended effect. - SP-KP 09:33, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Baseball on Wikicities

[edit]

Hello Sophitus, Googie Man here and I want to ask you something as a fellow baseball fan on Wikipedia. Jimbo and Angela have made a new webstie called Wikicities. This link in particular will take you to the baseball Wikicity. As you'll see it's similar to Wikipedia, but my hope is this will allow baseball fans to do more and different things, like reporting on games, in depth statistics, create mulitple pages for pictures, and whatever else baseball fans care to create. You've done great work on Wikipedia and I was hoping you could help get this baseball Wikicity off the ground. Please let me know what you think either at my talk page, or you can email me at terry@wikia.com. Thanks! Googie Man(Talk), 16:28, 6 January 2006 (UTC).[reply]

sports wiki

[edit]

Hi:

I noticed you were active on many sports pages on Wikipedia. My friends and are I starting a sports wiki that you may be interested in. It uses Wikipedia's software but we made a lot of technological improvements to allow for more news and opinion articles, as well as regular encyclopedic entries. If you're interested, contact me and I'll give you the URL.--DNL 17:54, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

it's great! Can we send more "business" your way? CyntWorkStuff 00:29, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments on it's FAC situation - regarding the train sheds, have you access to any info that could be added? Thx! --PopUpPirate 00:39, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you are involved in the NFL wikiproject. I started a new project at: Wikipedia:WikiProject American football to help clean up the non-NFL football articles (mostly football strategy type articles). Please consider joining this project and helping out where possible. --Jayron32 02:08, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Sophitus! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
